PRIVACY POLICY

A legal disclaimer

At Defar, we value your support and are committed to protecting your personal information.  The following privacy policy applies to information collected via our websites and online mobile apps, and collected through Defar-owned or operated online services (collectively the Online Resources).  By accessing and continuing to use our Online Resources, you acknowledge you have read and agree to the practices described in this policy.

Privacy Policy - the basics

Information We Collect

We may collect a variety of information about you and your devices from various sources, as described below.

Information You Provide to Us

Registration Information. If you sign up for an account, register to use any of our Online Resources, or sign up for emails or other updates, we may ask you for basic contact information, such as your name, email address, mailing address, username, and phone number. We may also collect certain demographic information including age, gender, interests, income, and marital status.

Communications. If you contact us directly, we may collect additional information from you. For example, when you reach out to our customer support team, we may ask for your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, or other contact information so that we can verify your identity and communicate with you. We may also store the contents of any messages or attachments that you send to us, as well as any information you submit through any of our forms or questionnaires.

Events. If you register for an event that we host, whether in-person or online, we may collect relevant information such as your name, address, title, company, phone number, and email address, as well as specific information relevant to the event for which you are registering.

User Content. We allow users of our Online Resources to share their own content with others. This may include posts, comments, reviews, and other user-generated content. Unless otherwise noted when creating such content, this information may be shared publicly through our Online Resources.

Payment Information. If you make a purchase through the Online Resources, your payment-related information, such as credit card and other financial information, may be collected by our third-party payment processor on our behalf.

Information We Receive from Other Sources

We may receive information about you from other sources, including third parties that help us update, expand, and analyze our records, identify new customers, and detect or prevent fraud. We may also receive information about you from social media platforms; for example, when you interact with us on those platforms or access our social media content. Information we receive from third parties is governed by the privacy settings, policies, and procedures of the relevant organizations, and we encourage you to review them.

Information Combining, Aggregation, and Analysis

We may combine and use data analysis to interpret your information and predict how likely you are to be interested in or responsive to a particular campaign or fundraising communication. If we conclude that you have the potential to support our efforts at a higher level, or interest in supporting our efforts at a higher level, we may collect additional publicly available information about you and combine and analyze that information into a donor profile.  This allows us to engage with you in a customized manner that is responsive to your supporter interest.

We commonly look at and combine information from public information resources, and other data sources that you chose to make available publicly on your social media channels, to give insight into your philanthropic interests and ability to support us. In addition, we may use trusted third-party companies, such as Blackbaud, that analyze and measure available information to assess affluence. This helps us understand more about your interests and level of potential engagement or donation. You may opt out of your data being combined and analyzed for prospect research by contacting us as described in the Your Choices section.

In some instances, we may combine personal information with device information or location information. If we do, we will treat the combined information as personal information as long as it is combined. We may also aggregate non-personal information collected from you and other users, as well as device information or location information, to produce general statistics that cannot be linked to you or any specific user.  We use that information to help provide you with a better experience on our Online Resources, to improve services, and to analyze and understand how our Online Resources are used.

How We Use the Information We Collect

We will only collect and process personal information about you if we have a lawful basis for doing so. Lawful bases include situations where you have given consent, and our legitimate interest in operating, managing, and promoting our organization, maintaining our relationship with you, and protecting our organization and Online Resources (provided that such processing does not outweigh your rights and freedoms). Where we rely on your consent to process personal information, you have the right to decline or withdraw your consent at any time, and where we rely on legitimate interests, you have the right to object. If you have any questions about the lawful bases upon which we collect and use your personal information, please contact info@defar.org.

  9. To detect and prevent fraud, and respond to trust and safety issues that may arise.

  10. For compliance purposes, including enforcing our rules, terms, or other legal rights, or as may be required by applicable laws and regulations or requested by any judicial process or governmental agency.
